Welcome to Hope Valley, SA, 5090! which is a suburb in north-eastern Adelaide (the capital of the state of South Australia)
We have put together this demonstration website to give an idea of the sort of things that we might present, to our own community, and to those who don't live in it as well!
We had the idea that a community website specifically for the people who live or work in Hope Valley might be useful, to be a sort of identity thingy... and that anyone who lives or works here could participate in the site...
- having an email address here that would redirect to whatever their regular email is, which would save having to check two lots of mail, and which could be changed quickly to fight spam,
- having a small amount of web space here that you would not need to be a guru to create or maintain,
- local clubs and other groups could have their calendar of events posted,
- we might event have a spot where useful computer "stuff" could be downloaded from, providing there were no copyright problems,
- bus timetables and maps (we have negotiated a deal with Fullers Maps of Adelaide in this regard... watch this space!),
- listings and basic information about facilities, such as the many residential estates for the elderly (for example "Tea Tree Gardens" and the "Lutheran Homes" spring to mind), and the many different community groups.
- Community history, and hopefully an archive of old photographs of the area going waaaaa...y back! And modern photos of interest.
The webmaster has been around taking happy snaps of a lot of stuff, and has pointed his camera at the beautiful reservoir scenery, a little bit of which you can see above, and some of which can be clicked on with links below left.
- basically we would list or make available all the things you would need to refer to or point strangers to, to share with them our delightful area.

Doesn't this all cost to set up? The answer is both "yes" and "no"
The webmaster has an association with a hosting company in Melbourne who are prepared to provide us "space" on a good connection to the rest of the world, and at an extremely reasonable price.
So therefore there will need to be a small monthly cost to keep the site going.
However, we are hoping to spread that cost with business houses in the community through providing them with a small amount of advertising space. The enquiries to date have suggested that we are likely to cover the first year's hosting fees and the domain registration fee. So fear not!
A point worth mentioning here is that the more "sponsorship" from community business, the cheaper the sponsorship cost.
That is how we can offer a free email address using a forwarding or redirection service for everyone living and working in Hope Valley.
While we would have liked the domain address of hopevalley.net, unfortunately that has been taken by an entrepreneur for a district called Hope Valley in the U.S.A.

Advertising here Simple, not flamboyant, and informative
What we envisage is small "business card" type of display ads that will fit within the confines of the left hand column on pages associated with the activites of the community. We believe that all advertising should avoid being "fussy" or "busy" and state the service being offered simply as normally presented on a printed business card.
We also will offer pages to major sponsors, which can be set up and changed reasonably infrequently. These pages would be associated with the sponsor's particular directory on the website at a small cost, and .
Sponsors' directories can also be set up as "sub domains" at an extra cost.
We hope to avoid advertising "banners" across the top or bottom of a page (known as "headers" and "footers") on the general pages of the website.
Advertising will not be permitted to intrude unnecessarily upon the general area of the site.
If there is interest, we could do a sort of "yellow pages" (yes, the background can be yellow, or pink, or whatever) where all advertising is located. The webmaster is open to suggestions. Please leave a message at 8396 0440 if you would like to talk about it.
